The Cool Catz Club
Brand Identity and Newspaper Design for a club night with live bands influenced by 1950's Rock and Roll and Blues.
It was integral for the logo and visual identity to be authentic of this era. The logotype was hand-drawn and the other characters were drawn to create their own 'Cool Catz' typeface. I created other typefaces that complimented the visual identity, with letterpressed wood-type and illustrations were hand-drawn. All of the large type was hand set, this attention to detail reflected the passion 'The Cool Catz Club' has for the music itself.
The organisers asked for a unique way to publicise the club night. Research went in to looking at music magazines and newspapers from the 1950's with inspiration taken from the colours used, the scrap book aesthetic, the typography used and the style of black and white photography. The format decided upon was an A1 poster which folded down into a 1950's style music newspaper. The newspaper advertised two events at a time, folding down to which ever month you wanted to publicise.
